Nyima Sangmo

Nyima Sangmo is the creator of our black Kyirong pangden. She is originally from Tibet, but she now lives in a Tibetan community near the northern border of Nepal with eight other families. Throughout the world, it is estimated that there are more than one hundred thousand Tibetans living outside of their homeland.  Each of them has a story to tell. Nyima has lived in this community for more than thirty-two years and has been weaving for more than three decades. Through observing the women living among her she taught herself how to weave by hand. She earns income for her family by weaving. Nyima's loom is handcrafted, and her yarn is locally sourced.  .

 About the Kyirong People

Kyirong (Happy Valley) is a beautiful region in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) above the northern Nepal border. This rather large area has a unique river valley allowing for forested areas to the south with the high desert to the far north. Many of the inhabitants of Kyirong also reside in Nepal within a few miles of the border.  In one of the settlements of Kyirong in Nepal is where the pangden is made.
